THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2nd or SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5th
If you volunteer here at Hollywood UMC
(usher, homeless ministry, 5P21, PATH Cooks,
sunday school teacher, music ministry, etc.),
we encourage you to join us for our
annual HUMC Volunteer Training.
We will be discussing important safety procedures,
staff/volunteer communication,
and details that are specific to your area of service in ministry.
Please choose one of the following dates to attend:
Thursday, 2/2, 6:30-7:30pm, OR Sunday, 2/5, 12:30-1:30pm.

Sunday, February 5th at 12:30pm in Grant Hall
where you will meet the pastor in an informal setting
after the morning worship service.
A note about the event from Rev. Kathy:
"If you wish to take the next step in faith
and learn more about membership and discipleship,
join me for coffee and conversation
after worship on Sunday, February 5th in Grant Hall.
We’ll talk about the five commitments of membership:
prayer, presence, gifts, service, and witness;
and what it means to be a member of Hollywood UMC.
The next four-week membership class will begin
after worship on February 12th with Rev. Dave,
and we will receive new members in March.
The following new member class will be held in July."

GROWING THROUGH GRIEF -
BEGINS THURSDAY @ 7:30pm
Experiences of grief are common to all of us,
but there are some losses in life
that challenge us with an intensity of grief
that exceeds what we feel we can bear.
There is help for us as we cope with grief,
and participating in a
“Growing through Grief” group is one of the ways.
You are invited to join us in Grant Hall from 7:30 to 9 pm,
for four Thursday evenings beginning February 2, 2012.
There are just a few spots still available.

The group will be led by our pastor emeritus, Rev. Ed Hansen.

LENTEN DEVOTIONAL WRITERS NEEDED -
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 9th
Yep, It is indeed that time of year again!
Each year, Hollywood United Methodist Church
produces our own Devotional Booklet
for the season of Lent.
This booklet is made up of short devotions
written by YOU, the members of our congregation.
Writers are provided with a scripture lesson
to meditate on and then write a
short (250—300 word) piece about.
This piece can be anything you feel,
from a poem, to a childhood memory,
to a funny story, to… well... anything at all,
as long as it fits on the page,
which means please no more than 350 words.
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, February 9th.

PATH COOKS MISSION OPPORTUNITY -
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19th
Join us Sunday, February 19th
beginning at 2:00pm in HUMC's main kitchen,
to help prepare dinner for residents of the
PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) facility in Hollywood.
If you’re busy at that time, you can come back at 4:00pm
to help transport the food and serve dinner at the facility.

EXPLORING MEMBERSHIP CLASSES -
SUNDAYS FEBRUARY 12th - MARCH 4th
If you are curious about what it means
to become a member of HUMC, then
you are invited to explore the next step
in our membership process.
EXPLORING MEMBERSHIP will look at
what it means to be a Methodist in general
and a member of Hollywood UMC in particular.
Over the course of 4 one hour sessions
we will examine and discuss topics
such as the history of Methodism,
the meaning and importance of the sacraments,
discovering our spiritual gifts,
and how to live out our faith in practical ways.
You certainly do not have to become a member
at the end of the class.
After all, it is called ‘exploring’ membership.
However, the class is a prerequisite
to the membership process.
EXPLORING MEMBERSHIP
will meet at 12:30pm on Sunday afternoons,
February 12th, 19th, 26th and March 4th in Grant Hall.
